BOISE’S BASQUE BLOCK
A Visitors Guide to Grove St
One block of Grove Street holds more Basque culture per square foot than anywhere in the Western Hemisphere. The Basque Block is home to The Basque Market, the Basque Museum & Cultural Center, the Basque Center, a fronton (handball) court, and the kind of restaurants and bars that'll convince you Boise was the plan all along.
Start your visit with us — pintxos, paella, a glass of Txakoli — and we'll point you the rest of the way down the block.
THE BASQUE MUSEUM & CULTURAL CENTER
The only Basque museum in the United States, three doors down from us. Permanent exhibits walk you through the migration story — sheep, boarding houses, language, dance — and rotating exhibits cover everything from photography to contemporary Basque art. Plan thirty minutes; you'll stay an hour.
THE BASQUE CENTER
The community center the diaspora built. Home to dances, dinners, mus tournaments, the Boiseko Gazteak dancers, and one of the largest Basque libraries outside Europe. Many events are open to the public — check their calendar before your trip.
OLD BOISE
The original downtown — brick warehouses, restored storefronts, walkable blocks, and a tight knot of bars, restaurants, and shops worth a slow afternoon. The Basque Block sits at its western edge, which makes us a natural starting point. From here, head east to wander Old Boise; head west to the Capitol, BoDo, and the river.
