Boise Basque Community
The Basque Museum & Cultural Center
The Basque Museum & Cultural Center provides a look into the heritage of the Basque communities of Idaho and surrounding areas.
Boise, Idaho has long been a central location where Basque immigrants first congregated after coming to the United States from the Spanish Basque Region. As immigrants established their lives here, Basques became well known for their hard work and perseverance.
The Basque Museum & Cultural Center provides a look into the Basque heritage by exhibits, collections, and tours. As a cultural center, it’s a gathering place for events and educational opportunities – in which people of all backgrounds can participate in Basque activities.
Located in downtown Boise, Idaho, the Basque Museum & Cultural Center provides an active central location for maintaining the Basque culture in the United States.
The Basque Center
The Basque Center was built in 1949 and is a gathering place for Basque people of the area. We help maintain our heritage by helping to support Basque dancing, events and gatherings. There is a monthly newsletter that lists the news and activities of Basques in the area and at the Center. In the dancing area, Boiseko Gazteak teaches children from 4 to 13. The Oinkari Basque Dancers are a performance troupe for ages 14 and older. In the music area, a new group has started in 2000 named Txantxangorriak. This group is open to all ages.
We have events such as San Inazio festival in July, Mortzillak Dinner in November and the Sheepherders Ball in December. Gatherings include monthly dinners that run from August through May. We have a large hall both upstairs and downstairs that is used for these events and is also available for rental.
Amuma Says No

Boise Art Walks
Boise Basque Block Tour

The tour guides participants as they walk through the Boise Basque Block, providing them with historical information, as well as anecdotes passed down through generations of the Basque community.
The tour highlights artwork like Ward Hooper’s “Lalak 2000,” the Letterman’s “Basque History Mural,” and the Basque Tree Carvings Mural.
In addition, the tour leads people through the Basque Museum Cultural Center, the Basque Market and other neighboring Basque landmarks, while also providing a taste of Jaialdi for those unable to attend the festival.
